Automatic Sump Pump Issues
My Sump Pump Keeps Turning On and Off
If your sump pump keeps turning on and off repeatedly, that is a signal that something is wrong with your pump. This is called short-cycling, and it is a really big issue. There are a couple of different reasons as to why this is happening and a few solutions too!
Sump Pump Running Issues
Adjust the Run Time of the Sump Pump
Some of the newer pumps have adjustable runtimes – you can adjust the runtimes on a pump.
Adjust the Float Switch on the Sump Pump
Sometimes, depending on the float switch, you can adjust the float on the pump to allow more water to come in before it triggers before it comes on.
Increase the Croc Size for the Sump Pump
If you don’t have an adjustable float or an adjustable pump, the only other way really to change that is to increase the croc size, increase the water holding capacity.
Unfortunately, this is the most expensive solution, but sometimes it is the right solution. If somebody put a little homemade croc in and it’s only picking up one or two gallons, you’ve got a short cycle; you’re going to burn up any pump doing that.
