Common Sewer Backup Causes

Common Sewer Backup Causes

If you are always dealing with backed-up sewers, pipes, and drains, you know how frustrating it can be to always have to call someone out to fix it! In today's blog, we are going to share a few common things that cause sewer backups and how you can avoid them!

What Causes Sewer Backups?

There are a few reasons that you could be dealing with backups frequently, but the biggest culprits are garbage disposals and flushing things that should not be flushed.

Garbage Disposals

These gadgets can seem like a lifesaver when you don't want to throw your leftover food in the trash to avoid odors. However, garbage disposals were not meant to be used how most people use them. They are really only supposed to handle very small bits of food that rinse off of your plates after you have scraped the leftovers into the trash.

More often than not, when people use their garbage disposals, they put way too much food down the drain, which will cause your sewer to back up.

Flushing Foreign Objects

This one seems like a no-brainer, but it still happens where we find people flushing things that should not go down the drain. The only thing that should be flushed is toilet paper! Never flush paper towels, sanitary napkins, or anything else that is not TP.
